“Having worked extensively with these materials, I understood both their strengths and their limitations.”
My background is rooted in polymer chemistry, material science, and advanced manufacturing. For years, my career revolved around analysing how physical materials behave under stress, why they fail in specific applications, and how we can structurally engineer their properties to solve complex, real-world problems.
As synthetic polymer fibres and geotextiles became the default standard for premium riding surfaces, I began analysing their mechanics. It became clear that while synthetic plastics offered initial stabilisation, they were a temporary mechanical compromise: highly sensitive to moisture fluctuations, demanding high maintenance, and leaving arena owners with a permanent microplastic disposal liability.
This realisation became the engineering foundation of ELS. We did not set out to build a cheaper additive; we set out to build a technically superior one. By looking beyond traditional synthetics, we identified premium, locally sourced leather derivatives as a highly resilient organic biopolymer that binds sand naturally, retains moisture consistently, and biodegrades cleanly at its end-of-life.
